Editing Elements within a Construct

Sequence elements can be edited from within the Workspace Pane of the Construct Editor.

• Elements can be merged or split
  • It is only possible to merge elements of the same type.
• Individual elements may be edited
  • It is only possible to edit the sequence for a single element at a time.
• Editing functions can be accessed from the “edit” menu at the top of the Construct Editor

• An element may be split into two or three elements by selecting a portion of the sequence of the final construct at the top of the sequence display in Sequence View and
  • Right click “split”
  • Selecting “split” from the “edit” menu

• Two or more elements of the same type may be merged by
  • selecting their icons in Icon View and
    • selecting “merge” from the “edit” menu
    • or right click “merge”
  • selecting sequence that crosses the boundaries between two or more elements in Sequence View and
    • selecting “merge” from the “edit” menu
    • or right click “merge”

• A new element can be created from parts of two or more elements by
  • selecting the sequence of the desired new element in Sequence View and
    • selecting “split & merge” from the “edit” menu
    • or right click “split & merge”

• Select the sequence to edit by highlighting a portion of the sequence of the final construct at the top of the sequence display, (label in screenshot 3).
  • Right click “edit sequence”, or select “edit sequence” from the “edit” menu
    • The sequence of the element appears in an editing window, with the highlighted sequence editable
  • Click “done” to incorporate changes into the element.
    • The name of the element will be modified to indicate that it has been edited.

• Right click “edit sequence”, or select “edit sequence” from the “edit” menu
  • The amino acid sequence of the element appears in an editing window, with the highlighted sequence editable
  • The DNA sequence is also displayed, but cannot be edited directly
• Click “done” to incorporate changes into the element.
  • The name of the element will be modified to indicate that it has been edited.
