Description

ATUM is looking for a seasoned, highly adaptable and multi-disciplinary attorney to lead its in-house legal department. This is a great opportunity to join a well-established yet dynamic company on the cutting-edge of biotechnology. In this role, you will support every aspect of ATUM’s business, providing multi-faceted counsel in an energetic, engaging, and collaborative environment.

As a top in-house legal executive, duties of this position include, but are not limited to, responsibility for corporate governance, compliance, commercial transactions, M&A, litigation, regulatory, privacy and intellectual property.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on all aspects of ATUM’s business
  • Draft, review and negotiate a high volume of contracts, licenses and term sheets with customers, vendors, and others
  • Work closely with C-suite to provide counsel on high-level strategic decisions
  • Identify, analyze and address potential legal risks
  • Manage and collaborate with outside counsel
  • Work closely with business development, sales and marketing teams to develop, implement and analyze business strategies
  • Design, implement and improve processes to better and more efficiently meet the legal needs of ATUM
  • Manage ATUM’s legal team

Requirements / Qualifications

  • J.D. with 15+ years relevant experience in a biotech / life sciences company with general counsel experience in either in-house, private practice, or a combination of both
  • Member of California State Bar or Registered In-House Counsel
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities and work across all levels of an organization
  • Excellent analytical skills and business acumen to provide timely and informed advice with respect to both legal and business matters
  • Excellent, open communication across all groups
  • Ability to facilitate information sharing, develop and maintain strong and collaborative relationships
  • High levels of initiative, self-sufficiency, and ownership
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs and work responsibilities
  • Ability to delegate tasks to, and guide legal team
  • Upbeat, positive attitude and good sense of humor
  • Proficiency in using MS Word, Excel, Google Suites
  • This is a full-time, on-site position

Strong Preferences:

  • Managerial position at a similar stage and scale biotech/ life sciences firm as ATUM
  • Experience in the following disciplines: intellectual property, technology licensing, GMP compliance, FDA regulations, litigation, corporate, infosec
  • Experience in building internal infrastructure to support ATUM in complying with its contractual or regulatory obligations

Core Focus

The successful candidate will be working in the New England region and will reside in Massachusetts to increase our market presence and brand awareness within the specified geography.* This will be accomplished through the management and support of our existing accounts to ensure customer success through direct client relationship management as well as internal client advocacy. The position is also directly accountable for prospecting, building, and nurturing new customers and transitioning them to long term relationships, primarily in Biologics based therapeutics.

Our entire customer support team (including Business Development, Technical Leads and Operations) work closely together and rely heavily on deep technical understanding to support our new and existing customers so that we can efficiently address their scientific needs and craft innovative and efficient solutions to our customers problems. This team-oriented process requires a proactive Business Development professional function to connect and build strong relationships with our clients by utilizing a deep understanding of the fundamental scientific principles and processes involved.

Requirements

Qualifications/Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in sales and or business development within the biotech industry, preferably in protein sciences and/or service organizations
  • Preferred MS or PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Protein Chemistry, or closely related field
  • Background in Cell Line Development and/or Protein Engineering preferred.
  • Passionate about science and scientific innovation.
  • Passionate about client success & advocacy.
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to learn and communicate technical/scientific knowledge to other scientists.
  • Independent, driven and highly self-motivated with a collaborative spirit.
  • Excel at time management and personal organization
  • Able to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to travel on a routine basis, including trips to ATUM headquarters in California, frequent client meetings, and trade shows in the US
  • Strong existing, and growing network within the biotechnology community.
